Marcus, a successful solo competitor, at the BC Highland Games last year
The results from the final “mini-gathering” of the season have been posted on bcpipers.org, the website of the British Columbia Pipers’ Association, which provides a host of information, support, and opportunities to bands, pipers, and drummers of all talent levels and ages in Washington, Oregon, and BC, Canada.
NWJPB is very proud of every one of our players for committing to learn their instruments, performing for the first time or the thousandth time, and showing up twice a week for two to three hour practices, as well as planning most of their summer weekends around the adventures and trips we plan to competitions around the world.
We have found that those who take the plunge and compete in solo events can improve rapidly, as regular feedback from some of the most talented pipers and drummers in the world can help tremendously. All this said, we thought Andrew Berthoff shared some ”Sage Advice” from top bagpiper and instructor Murray Henderson in a recent Pipes|Drums blog post.
“If you are lucky enough to win a major event, always remember, you are still the same player as you drive home from the competition as you were going to it.”
Regardless of your results at any competition, focus on playing music that you’re proud of and remember this advice. If you leave the stage feeling like your performance was something you’re proud of, you’ve won it all.
